An Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) is a multidisciplinary team approach to optimize the use of antimicrobial agents in order to gain positive patient outcomes. The appropriate agent, dose, route, duration, and frequency are evaluated and individualized per patient. Regional susceptibility patterns are continually evaluated and direction regarding clinical practice are consistently monitored and adjusted with communication to medical staff within the system.
