The Joint Commission Standard

The Joint Commission recently announced a new Medication Management (MM) standard (MM.09.01.01) for hospitals, critical access hospitals, and nursing care centers which address antimicrobial stewardship.

A consultant infectious disease expert specialized in Antimicrobial Stewardship may help meet these requirements by interpreting and implementing the recommendations as provided by the CDC and adopted by Joint Commission, in accordance with the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. While all facilities may not immediately have the resources or funding implement this rule, the use of such resources are very cost effective.
